LSU named after A.S. Pushkin was formed in 1992 by a resolution of the head of the administration of the Leningrad Region, becoming the first higher education institution of this subject of the Russian Federation. At present, the university is a major scientific and educational center, which has firmly taken its place in a number of higher education organizations in the North-West of Russia, and is known outside of it. University branches are located in the cities of the Leningrad Region (Boksitogorsk, Vyborg, Kingisepp, Luga).
